How marketplace coverage works
From quote to coverage in four steps.
-
01
Tell us about your household
Income range, family size, ZIP. That’s most of what determines what plans and subsidies you qualify for.
-
02
We compare plans across carriers
Premium, deductible, network, prescription coverage. We translate the fine print so you don’t have to.
-
03
Apply for subsidies
Most marketplace shoppers qualify for some subsidy. We’ll calculate yours and apply it directly to your monthly premium.
-
04
Enroll and get covered
We handle paperwork, deadlines, and any follow-up the carrier needs. Then we check in each year to make sure your plan still fits.
Common questions
What people ask us most.
Does it cost anything to use a broker like Insurance Services?
No. Brokers are paid by the insurance carrier, not by you, and the price you pay for a plan is the same whether you go through us or sign up directly. The advantage of working with us is that you get side-by-side comparisons of the plans that actually fit your situation, and a real human to call when something goes sideways.
When can I sign up for marketplace coverage?
Open Enrollment for Pennie typically runs November 1 through January 15. Outside that window, you can still enroll if you’ve had a qualifying life event — losing employer coverage, moving, getting married, having a baby, and others.
What’s the difference between Pennie and Healthcare.gov?
Pennie is Pennsylvania’s state-based marketplace. Pennsylvanians shop through Pennie instead of Healthcare.gov. Same plan options as the federal exchange, often with state-level subsidy enhancements. We’re certified on Pennie since the program launched.
Will I qualify for a subsidy?
Most marketplace shoppers do. Subsidies are based on household income relative to the federal poverty level — and eligibility extends to a broader range of household incomes than many people realize. We’ll calculate yours quickly when you reach out.
What if I just need short-term coverage?
Short-term plans can bridge a gap between jobs or before Medicare kicks in. They’re typically cheaper but cover less than ACA marketplace plans, and don’t cover pre-existing conditions. We’ll be honest about whether one fits your situation.
